WHAT IS YOUR FIRST MEMORY OF DIRT?
Bienvenides. We dream of a land free.

Often our earliest memories of dirt are about home: A playground. A field. A backyard. A tree. We wanted to tap into those first encounters with the earth to invite us into liberation.

What is your first memory of dirt? is part of a public art project called Exorcism = Liberation. Exorcism = Liberation offers a different kind of campaign than the one offered by politicians. We made this as a kind of intervention–an offering to be with one another, build empathy. These audio experiences are a small rehearsal to feel and to act. Empathy is a muscle that needs to be flexed for a collective liberated future.

We recommend using headphones. It sounds better.

LEARN + ACT

For each audio in this project, we offer one entry point to learn and act. Our focus is Puerto Rico. With What is your first memory of dirt?, we are sharing resources and information about how “rentier capitalism” is pushing out Puerto Ricans from Puerto Rico, displacing Puerto Ricans with wealthy Americans seeking to evade federal taxes.
